High-density projects should generally not be allowed in crowded housing areas, Penang municipal councillor Dr Lim Mah Hui said.
He said “over-building” should not be permitted in congested areas.
“Proper planning is needed,” he said in reference to a protest led by Penang Citizens Awareness (Chant Group) member Yan Lee on Saturday against the “Moulmein Rise” project comprising a 27-storey commercial project in Lengkok Moulmein.
The site is before the Pulau Tikus main market here, one of the oldest facilities in the state.
Traders and residents are also against the closure of a car park there.
Dr Lim stressed that he was not part of the council committee that approved the controversial project.
“Too much high-rise development in any area without proper planning will only cause more problems for residents and those who patronise the areas,” he added. - By The Star

why? will get more traffic jam, more polluted, more concrete building replacing greennery, and may also destroy the nice scenery... offcources, all are protecting of being affected. Not because people are selffis, is natural behave as all look for better living quality.
understood your stand too, u prefer Penang island to have more property development, no wrong also. more houses build for more domestics market, good too.
so, don't blame or crictisize others for protecting their home garden.
be fact and fair, if the project going to make thing worse, then we should protest. if the development is good base on open analysis , then we should support.
if the developer can show that their slop and hill cutting is good to everyone, then we support.
if reclaim land is good to help penang to have more house and follow environmental rules, then we support.
we have Penang mainland which plenty of land to develop, don't forget. we all are penang not seperate by island or mainland.
After all these protests, what is happening now and what I expect to happen:
1) "We should not build in the congested areas" - PMC
- The group of protestors who put up a good show last week have been identified as non-local, they probaly have no ideas where "Jalan Moulmein" is, and guided there by a GPS or chartered bas. This is obviously a political game, even the uncle at coffee shop knew this. The locals including some of the hawkers want the development, you can read the newspaper.
2) "We shoud not cut the hill, we should not approve hill-slope project" Residents, NGO, and The Stars
- Palmex and Sunway have just won the appeal against the MPPP, project will go on as planned. So whats use of the protests? It is the guideline and policy which we need to revise, who is doing that? Protester? or The Star?
3) "We should not approve reclaim project" Bayan Indah Residents and NGO
- Boustead is preparing to sue state government for breaching the agreement. And I tell you, there is no case for the state to win this, ultimately need to compensate with a land or cash, all this are penangite money (or bayan Indah residents should bear half of it?)
- Next to the door-step, tropicana Ivory is going to take up a major reclaim program, so why the residents never protests? Just b'coz its not directly infront of their house then its ok? What's their stand actually? And trust me once the reclaim completed, Putra Marine/gold coast coastline will turn into a mud-land exactly just like what e&o did to gurney. Aren't the residents there just short-sighted?
4) "We should not destroy our green lung" Tanjung Bungah residents Association and NGO
- Majority of these menmbers are owners of The Cove, surin, or Taman Ratu series of condo etc which either cutting hill or contaminate the skyline in Tg Bungah. So they have forgotten they are the culprit, and now they want to stop people from doing it?
- At the time we speak, more trees are being, or planned to be cutdown at Tg Bungah, balik pulau, teluk bahang some developers including big shot sp setia, mahsing, belleview, and PLB. So what have change? The protests help anything?
5) "We should not build on squatters land, they are part of history and should be treated as Heritage" Squatters from Pokok Asam, Kamoung Tg Tokong, and kampung Bt Uban
- They are loking for compensation, a hefty one, set wrong precedent by the kampung bala drama. So developer need to pay more to them, and later sell more expensive to buyer. So who wins at the end?

I see, if your facts is true, then i would say:-
1) i heard too from car dealer uncle there, definitely is BN game against Pakatan, most of businessman there welcome the project and residents too. May only small portion of people reject this project. So, overall this project is viable to resident and business owner there. We support the project. Traffic jam and carpark issue need MPPP to settle and they need to tell us how they going to do now!
2)Penang government is weak to do anything on hill cut and greenery protection, they are fail and may going the same if they win coming election,
"YB Lim Guan Eng, please lead this, dont let your stupid Wong to continue do nothing!!!"
3)This due to environmental officer and state govenrment not capable to resolve it, again they are weak in housing and property development, short sighted leader.
Buyers continue to buy reclaim land property, State government will continue to approve it,
"YB Lim, don't blame ex-BN for approved it while you win again in 2013 election".
4)same as no. (2), voters are supporting Pakatan, then they no need to do anything for us, let them loose some seat, then the protection may going to work, so work for BN to all Tg Bunga seat resident.

Every leader should have to do better than now, not saying LGE not good as overall, but not to deny his team are weak in housing and urban planning.
can't deny we our income is lower than 20-30% compare with Klang valley, but pay the same price to own a house for family.
don't forget DAP is socialist, not capatalis, they forgot their role to build an more equal and fair society for Penang supporter.
Not only anti-corruption, they should do more for society such as housing problem for below average community in island.
their idelogy may distoted after they Big win and 2/3 majority says in Dewan Negeri.
