RM50mil convention centre for Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A RM50mil mini Interna-tional Convention Centre with double the seating capacity of the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) will be built in Relau early next year.
Penang Municipal Council president Tan Cheng Chui said the centre, which would be a smaller version of the Kuala Lumpur Conven-tion Centre, was expected to ready in a year after the ground-breaking ceremony.
He said it would be built on council land near Pisa.
“This centre will complement Pisa as many people have found that Pisa’s arena seating capacity of 10,000 is not enough,” he told reporters after unveiling the council’s 2010 Budget here yesterday.
He said RM30mil would be allocated for the project from the 2010 budget, while the remaining RM20mil would come from the 2011 budget.
Tan said the council had engaged a consultant to provide them with a conceptual plan.
He said there was a need for a good convention centre in order to achieve international city status.
“Currently we have direct flights from Penang to several countries. Another direct flight would be launched soon to Chen-nai.
“We are aware that there are many investors who are interested in doing business with Penang but we don’t really have a good convention centre as a venue to sell our products,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tan said the Housing and Local Government Ministry would supply another 24 closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) for installation on the island soon.
He said this would complement the existing 31-odd CCTVs.
“The police have identified the hotspots to place these CCTVs.
“The ministry has already tendered the CCTVs for both the island and mainland totalling 24 each, but since the price has come down, they had to re-tender it,” he added.

Developer says about 1 to 2 months. Just to clarify the 690K is after 20K discount...only for intermediate unit #33 to #39. Unit #12 to 31 not yet open for booking, they say will sell higher than 690K. This is the info. I got from development recently.

Sherly, If I recall correctly they will use Type B (the one with backyard) as show unit. Type B selling price is higher than type A. I have no idea whether they have launch this project, maybe you can call developer to find out more details.

Hi Sherly, as mentioned earlier only no. 32 open for booking, seems like selling at RM990K due to got bigger land size. They say estimate completion date is end next year. Before you buy suggest you go that area have a look, it has around 12 blocks of flat/apartment, and some new 3 storey terraces. As usual, a lot of illegal parking on road sides...traffic during peak hour you can imagine lah. Good thing is near to school. I have no idea whether that area will be valuable in future :)
oh...will be traffic jem on morning n evening... the price increase,must think twice bfore buying... penang island everywhere also jem,so many cars...where they all come from? hehehe...so many ppl now..
I personally went there before; for me, the Type B units (#51-56), Taman Seri Sari apartment consider not too close as in between is carpark & empty space (actually you get quite open air flow; However, be expect the road in front will be more traffic flow (the 20’/50’ wide road will be connect to Hilir Paya Terubong like in master plan above) as ppl try to avoid the traffic jam on the Relau/Sungai Ara junction.

wk, if unit type A mayb no 39 izzit ok? I think if tiles its slippery n not lasting coz it may broke after a few years.. Imprint not slippery like normally they use for swimming pool side, it can lasting many years.. This is my opinion lar..

There is another project, One residence located at Sg Ara. It's selling hot and prices is <650k, 22x75ft. I hv visit they show room, very impressive, nice layout & environment is good - no low cost flat surrounding.. better go for that project....

The show unit should be show in unit #47 with renovation, and the actual unit will be in unit #46 for type B, and unit #32 and #33 is actual unit for type A.

hI.. I went to their show house, nice n simple but the toilet for 3rd n 4th room to small. The room also not realy big.. master room at 1st floor quit big..lioa their layout not so grand compare to south bay residence..
I went to see the show unit on 31-01-10, overall facade look nice, but too many balcony to me, somemore the developer pay only legal fee for S&P only. A bit too many upfront money need to pay.

Will the Bayan Residences face flood problem? I read the news that Relau always facing flood issue when there is heavy rain. Another point is the apartment nearby there are medium or low cost apartment...environment not so good. Is it worth to buy compare to Sentral green 3 storey terrace?
