Real estate agents: Govt serious about home ownership plan

Real estate agents said the Government’s plan to limit the sale of house priced up to RM300,000 to first time house buyers only shows that it is serious about promoting home ownership among those who have yet to own a house.

However, questions arised, said Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents’ estate agency practice committee (EAPC).

K. Soma Sundram, chairman of the EAPC public relations committee said: “While this is encouraging, how will it be executed? How it is going to control that it goes only to first time house buyers? How and who is going to ensure that?”

Soma, who was commenting on Budget 2016 review announced yesterday, said the move would be effective immediately on all new housing projects. “Will this mean that developers will be building houses further away from the city in order to sell at that price?” Soma asked.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also said the Government would carry out the integrated house ownership expo tour, involving houses offered by the National Housing Department, 1Malaysia People’s Housing, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd, 1Malaysia Government Employees Housing Programme, government and private agencies. “More than 100,000 housing units will be offered under this programme,” he said. - By The Star
