Penang will have a development corridor in southern Seberang Prai from Juru to Byram and Changkat, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said.
He said the 12,140ha project, initiated through the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), would encompass areas in Bukit Minyak, Nibong Tebal and Batu Kawan including the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, the Penang Science Park and the Bukit Tengah Indus-trial Park.
“The concept is also in line with PDC’s five-year Strategic Plan 2016-2020 where it will look into the creation of new attractive corridors of growth across the state.
“The development corridor also has the potential to be developed into a manufacturing, services and commercial or residential hub to promote economic and social growth.
“The entire programme will take 20 to 25 years to develop with a concept which will create jobs for all levels of the society,” he said in a press conference.
Lim added that PDC would carry out an online poll for six months for the public to suggest a name for the corridor.
The online poll will soon be avai-lable on PDC and state websites. - By The Star
