A Penang lawmaker has asked if 1Malaysia People’s Housing Project (PR1MA) is serious in building affordable housing units in Penang.
State Town, Housing and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the National Housing Council announced in August that PR1MA would be building 24,923 houses in Penang.
“This is one of the many announcements by PR1MA over the past years but there has not been any units built to date.
“If the announcement is true than the Housing Minister Datuk Rahman Dahlan should confirm when these units are going to be built in Penang.
“If it’s not going to be built, the minister should say it outright rather than PR1MA continuously making such announcements,” he told a recent press conference in Komtar.
Jagdeep said he had written to Rahman for details on the projects as there has not been any project application submitted to the state government or State Planning Committee.
However, he added if PR1MA was genuine in wanting to build the affordable units, the state government was willing to extend its cooperation to facilitate the process. - By The Star
