A group of Mar Vista residents in Penang has lodged a police report against the condominium management council (MC) claiming that a letter of ‘no objection’ had been issued by the MC without their consent.
The letter purportedly gave permission to turn their 8,970sq m clubhouse, also known as the 3-Do Club, into a retirement home.
The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) now wants the MC to clarify the contents of the ‘no objection’ letter after the residents met MBPP president Datuk Patahiyah Ismail in a meeting arranged by Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik.
Ng said the MC must give a satisfactory explanation.
“Otherwise, the C1 (planning permit) will not be given. Without it, permit work cannot be carried out,” he said.
“A letter of ‘no objection’ cannot be considered as a letter of consent.
“The MC should get the residents’ consent through an annual grand meeting or extraordinary grand meeting,” Ng told a press conference after the meeting yesterday.
Ng claimed the MC had failed to protect the interest of the residents.
“The residents will not be able to enjoy the facilities at the clubhouse if it is converted into a retirement home,” he said.
Ng said the residents would now lodge a report against the MC with the Commissioner of Building.
“They will also lodge a report with the strata management tribunal in Seberang Prai once the tribunal has been set up.”
The clubhouse facilities of Mar Vista, located in Tanjung Bungah, include a large swimming pool, two squash courts, two tennis courts, a gym and a restaurant. - By The Star
