New lift among facilities installed at high-rise

Just installed: Taman Seri Damai residents testing out the new lift.

The Penang government has spent almost RM1mil to upgrade facilities at the three 16-storey blocks of the Taman Seri Damai apartments in Batu Lancang, Penang, over the past six years, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the expenses included the recent replacement of a lift in Block 23 and a new RM172,000 water tank in Block 21 which will be installed soon.

Lim said the money came from the constituency funds of Batu Lanchang assemblyman Danny Law and Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi.

“I hope people in the area will use the facilities with care,” he said when opening the newly installed lift recently.

Lim said other works done at the high-rise, which had a total of 570 units in the three blocks, were the replacement of lifts in Block 25 in 2011 and Block 21 in 2012, and installation of a new RM162,400 water tank in Block 25 in 2012.

Law said the new lift in Block 23 would solve the problem of residents, particularly senior citizens, who had to climb up the stairs when the lifts broke down frequently in the past.

He said an additional amount of RM50,000 was also allocated from his constituency funds to upgrade the common community hall and to install new letter boxes in the two blocks.

State Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the state government had spent RM11.2mil last year to upgrade facilities in 49 housing projects. - By The Star
