‘Normal not to give 5% discount for Bumis buying affordable homes’

Penang Housing and Urban Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo says the 'no Bumiputera discount' policy for low-priced housing units had been the practice in all states.

It is normal not to give a 5% discount to Bumiputeras buying low-cost, medium-low and affordable housing units, says the DAP-led Penang government.

State Housing and Urban Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said today the absence of the discount had been the practice in all states.

“As such, letters to the State Secretary Department referred to by the media are clear. There is no 5% discount,” he told a press conference here.

He was commenting on the authenticity of letters dated Feb 23 issued by the state government to the Penang Municipal Council and Seberang Perai Municipal Council titled ‘No 5% discount for Bumiputeras buying low-cost, medium-low and affordable houses’.

Penang Umno Youth had demanded an explanation from the state government on the absence of 5% discount for Bumiputeras buying low-cost, medium-low and affordable houses. - By The Rakyat Post
