A month after opening Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang, the Hunza Properties Berhad Group celebrated another auspicious occasion with the unveiling of the group’s new office at the Hunza Tower at the mall.
Situated atop the mall, the 10-storey Hunza Tower’s opening was officiated by the group’s executive chairman Datuk Khor Teng Tong together with state Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow and other VIP guests.
“We have been operating at our offices in Green Lane for close to 20 years now and before that, we were housed in various offices on the island and mainland,” said Khor,
Khor also said to be an international city, Penang’s assets must be taken care of to compete against strong cities in the region.
“For example, we must ensure protection and enhancement of our heritage buildings to safeguard our Unesco status. Penang has just started on this and we have a long way to go,” he said.
He added that to make it rewarding for both local and foreign investors, the state government should enhance its efforts to encourage more investments.
“With this in place, we have no doubt that the state’s tourism industry will flourish and this will broaden our revenue earners and transform Penang from a ‘silicon island of the east’ to one where services play an ever more important role,” Khor said.
Chow dubbed the opening of the new tower as a milestone for the group and Khor personally, who grew from a contractor 30 years ago to a developer, whose firm is now listed in the Bursa Malaysia with a net worth of half a billion ringgit. - By The Star
