A special committee headed by state Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo has been set up to monitor the issuance of strata titles for low-cost housing schemes under the state.
He said the special committee, set up on July 10, was scheduled to meet every two months.
“It includes members from the state Housing Committee. We also invite surveyors to come to the meetings. If necessary, I will hold it more often,” he said recently.
He also urged the Federal Government to expedite the enforcement of the Strata Titles (Amendment) Act 2013 which was gazetted on Feb 7.
“As of June 15, the total applications for strata titles in Penang amounted to 1,754 schemes comprising 209,083 units.
“However, 56 schemes comprising 17,884 units have been recorded as not having applied for the strata titles,” he said while urging all developers to come out with the strata titles immediately.
He added that the residents of Taman Free School would obtain their strata titles between the middle and end of next year.
Other flats which have yet to get their titles are the Batu Lanchang flats, old Mak Mandin flats, Mak Mandin I flats, Taman Tun Sardon (transition) housing scheme as well as the Taman Tun Sardon Phases One, Two and Three flats. - By The Star
