Residents worried about amended condo plan

Many residents staying near a proposed high-rise housing project in Green Lane, Penang, are getting worried by the increase in condominium units and fewer car park lots in the project.

Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi said the original building approved last year, had fewer storeys in its six blocks but now the developer was applying to amend the plan to build more floors.

“At the same time, the three-storey car park will be reduced to two storeys.

“More than 50% of the local community here are worried about the lack of parking space for the condo residents, which would cause them to park on the roadside and choke up traffic.

“The matter has been forwarded to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who instructed acting Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) president Tang Cheng Chui and MPPP planning and development director Maimunah Mohd Sharif to consult us on tackling the problem and reviewing the developer’s second building plan, which has yet to be approved,” Ooi said at a press conference recently.

He said Lim recommended two new clauses for social harmony and sustainable development be included in the second building plan’s approval.

Ooi also said his service centre would be holding the ‘Thursday Night with Councillors’ programme beginning this month to accept complaints.

“Councillors will take turns to meet the public at the service centre every Thursday night from 8pm to 10pm,” he said, adding councillors Harvinder Singh, Ong Ah Teong and Teh Leong Seng were involved in the programme.

The Jelutong DAP service centre is at 88-1-1 Lintang Sungai Pinang at the Sri Wonder Complex. The centre’s numbers are 012-2956356 (hotline), 04-2816308 (office) and 04-2838812 (fax). - The Star

surprise that Jeff Ooi can make comments like these i.e. when the story is truncated, the reality changes

as i am aware, the reduction in car park is for the higher end project with 5 blocks due to reduced density of Block A; whereas the increase in number of floors is for the lower end project with 1 block where car park would be accorded accordingly. the above 2 projects, although submitted as a single plan, are physically exclusive i.e. 2 development projects for different buyer profiles

those with updates, pls comment further - thx
